Difficult to clean

I was very disappointed when I washed it after it was soiled. It took days for it to dry and now it feels stiff and way less soft. What do you recommend for cleaning as regular machine washing isn’t a good option

Hi Debra,
Thanks for your feedback, we completely understand how disappointing that must be.
Because shearling is a natural material (wool attached to leather), it doesn’t behave like fabrics when washed. The stiffness you’re feeling usually happens when the pelt dries without being stretched and reshaped while damp, which helps keep the leather soft. Be sure to follow our Care Instructions here, https://www.sheepskinshop.ca/pages/care-instructions
The good news is that this can often be improved: gently work the leather backing by flexing and stretching it in different directions. Lightly mist the leather side (optional) and continue working it as it dries. Apply a small amount of leather conditioner (suited for soft suedes/sheepskin leather) to restore suppleness
For future care, we recommend spot cleaning when possible, and if washing is needed: cold water, wool-safe detergent, slow air drying (tumble w/ no heat), and stretching and reshaping throughout the process. Sheepskin is very resilient, but it does require a bit of hands-on care to maintain its natural softness.

Sheepskin

It is good for his back. I washed it on the wool cycle wit wool laundry soap and air dried it and hung it to dry. It shrunk a little bit
