Pennsylvania Tartan Wool
The Pattern

The Pennsylvania Tartan fabric is a blanket weight 100% wool weave, produced in Pennsylvania by The Sheepskin Shop.

Designed by William H Johnston to honor the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment ("the Black Watch"). Their success at the battle of Bushy Run in 1763 during the French and Indian War assured British, rather than French, rule in Western Pennsylvania eventually allowing the territory to become part of the American colonies.

The rich blue, green, and yellow colors, with a touch of red, are the colors that make up the Great Seal of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Blue is the prominent color, being the background color of our state flag.

The edges of all throws and blankets cut from this beautiful fabric are first serged and then bound with a crochet blanket stitch, using blue wool yarn, at approximately 6 stitches per inch. This process protects and highlights the edge of the Pennsylvania Tartan blanket.
